2018 Kia Stinger 4-Door Coupe makes its Global Debut at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show

Kia is not messing around any more. Economy cars may pay the bills, but if you want to appeal to enthusiasts, you have to deliver a rear-wheel drive 300+ horsepower sporty car and that is the 2018 Kia Stinger. Actually, it has 365 horsepower and goes 0-60 in five seconds. There’s a reason why mainstream brands like Chevy and Toyota don’t offer rear-wheel drive sedans because it costs a lot more than a front-wheel drive vehicle. Is the Stinger going to set sales records? Probably not. But it will add credibility to the Korean brand especially with purists. When you consider a vehicle like the Audi A7 which is considerably more expensive, the Stinger serves the same purpose. The question is where are the buyers going to come from. Will Kia steal buyers from BMW & Audi? Perhaps. But maybe they’ll find Optima shoppers who are willing to drop a few more bucks to get something sporty and fun that stands out from the crowd. It’s still a crossover World, but the Stinger has enough utility and style to turn a couple of heads.
